Whether you're a novice or an expert, the Seychelles' warm, clear, seas, sheltered coves, dramatic reefs and exotic fish and marine life make this while region a diver's paradise.
Many hotels and island lodges have their own PADI* Diving centres. Their centres are normally members of the Professional Diving Association and offer a complimentary pool dive as an introductory lesson. During this session most novices quickly get a feel for how easy it is to learn to dive. This, together with tales of how exhilarating the experience can be out there in the open sea, normally 'hooks' most first-timers.
The next step is usually a short course in open waters, the coast of which is a most worthwhile investment. Within a few days you can become reasonably proficient, while also having the opportunity to explore and experience the most amazing underwater scenery. |

Catch of the day
The Seychelles' unspoilt waters are also a paradise for sports fishing. The best big game fishing grounds are said to be at the edge of the Seychelles Bank, where the ocean suddenly drops to over 1,000 fathoms. Denis and Bird are the nearest islands but boats can take you out to the area from Mahe and other Islands. Wahoo, yellowfin tuna and the prestigious sailfish and marlin are regularly caught on fishing trips, and record breaking catches are often recorded.
